3 April 1986 Students given opportunity to present business proposals

Students at Lincoln College who may be contemplating going into businesses of their own will be told about the Canterbury Enterprise Scheme at a meeting on campus next Wednesday (April 9).

Proposals had to be submitted by August 1, and these would be reviewed by a panel of accountants, bankers, technical advisers and business.

A selection panel meeting in September would decide who should have places on a training and development program to be held early next year.

Mr Sanderson said those putting proposals would have to show commitment, commercial awareness and have marketing, selling and managing abilities.

Major sponsors of Canterbury Enterprise are The Press, Peat Marwick, IBM and Trustee bank Canterbury, and the scheme is organised by the Canterbury Development Corporation.

Representatives of these organisations will be on the selection panel.

The business proposals chosen will have to be marketable, credible, profitable, practical and offer employment opportunities.

Those chosen will be given specialized training, business counselling and contracts, and money for market research and other preparation.
