6 May 1986 The place of computers in agriculture to be discussed at conference

Sixty leaders from primary industry are being invited to a conference on computers in agriculture to be held early in July at Lincoln College.

Organized by the Kellogg Farm Management Unit, the conference will be held on Friday July 11 and Saturday July 12.

Those at the conference will discuss farm computing, computer technology, data communication, public information,
and automated marketing.

Likely future developments in computer systems and equipment will also be discussed.

Among those invited will be representatives of Federated Farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Wool Board, Lands and Survey Department, the Farm Management Society and the Society of Accountants.

Professor Tony Zwart, Professor of Marketing at Lincoln College, Miss Nicky Shadbolt, acting manager of the M.A.F.  Ruakura Research Station, and Dr A. Wright, Reader in Farm Management at Massey University will be among the speakers.

Other guest speakers will be Mr John May, of Lincoln College Farm Management Department, Mr T. Herrick, Mr T. Wall, Mr Lawrence Zwimpfer, manager of market planning with the Post Office, Mr Peter Trim, Bureau of Primary Information, and Dr C. Boswell, Director of the Computer Centre, Victoria University, Wellington.

Papers will be given on how computers affect farmers, accountants, advisers, consultants and researchers.

During the conference there will be small group demonstrations of computers, and computers will be available for experiments.
