The small figure of an angel, about 20 inches high and carved in limestone, looks down from the balcony of Ivey Hall's porch. Erosion has all but obliterated the symbols on the shield it holds and the motto circled below, but is without doubt the emblem of the Canterbury Association (1849) and appears on the Association's published paters. Although never used by Lincoln College, the emblem was a prime source of the design of the College's coat of arms, adopted in 1940.
