Omarama is a small high country township of 231 residents. It sits at the junction of State Highways 8 and 83, major tourist routes through the central South Island. The township has seen expansion as a holiday spot due
to its close proximity to many receational activities. The area to be studied encompasses the main streets of the township and associated recreational and residential areas.

Minimise the negative physical and aesthetic effects of tourism through design, ensuring that Omarama retains its individuality, identity and outstanding natural features and landscapes, which will come into a new spotlight.
