22 March 2016 Important milestone in the Year of the Golden Monkey

The Year of the Golden Monkey became a memorable one for 200 international students yesterday, with the official opening of the newly completed classroom village on campus, a public-private partnership between Lincoln University and the New Zealand College of Business (NZCB).

The ceremony was attended by Selwyn District Mayor Kelvin Coe, Chinese Vice Consulate-General for Education Charlie Li, Lincoln Chancellor Tom Lambie, Vice-Chancellor Professor Robin Pollard, Deputy Vice-Chancellor-Group Services Murray Dickson, and NZCB Directors Jason Ho and Liz Zhou, as well as guests from the wider Canterbury community.

“We are encouraged by the outcomes from this important partnership thus far, and plan to invest up to $10 million over the next five years into nurturing and growing these opportunities with our partners at Lincoln and the wider Canterbury region,” Mr Ho says.

“The business collaboration we have with Lincoln covers a range of activities; quality assurances on the programs that we teach, settling in new students to on-campus accommodation, supporting Kiwi students and staff to China, establishing buddying-mentoring programmes for international students studying on the special NZCB-LU pathway towards Lincoln University Bachelors and Masters qualifications, and many more”.

Lincoln’s Business Development Manager, Dr Samuel Yu, says students from the Greater China region, Malaysia, Thailand and Korea have been coming to study in the special programme, and Lincoln will continue to promote the Christchurch region as a great destination to experience New Zealand and for learning.

“We are now working on phase two of the partnership which includes expanding into more subject specialisations for special educational pathways towards Lincoln qualifications, as well as co-investments into new facilities,” Dr Yu says.
