7 April 2016 Lucky landing for Auckland students

Auckland senior students have a unique opportunity to land an all-expenses paid trip to explore tertiary study options in the South Island alongside their Aussie equivalents.

In its sixth year, but formerly aimed solely at Australian students, Lincoln University’s ‘Land the Trip’ is now open to current New Zealand Year 12 and 13 students in the Auckland region with an interest in the land-based sector. The experience includes a series of mini lectures, applied learning modules, exploration of Christchurch City, and all that Lincoln University has to offer. Accommodation, flights and meals are covered.

The 16 winners of the 2015 trip spent time with Lincoln students, attended lectures and joined in with some orientation week activities. They also visited the Lincoln University farms and vineyard, took a tour of Christchurch city to see what’s on offer, and were guests at a Māori cultural evening on campus. 

Lincoln University Senior Student Liaison Officer Sophie Prangnell says ‘Land the Trip’ aims to widen the perception of students. “Agriculture is not just gum boots and hard work in the field. The five day programme showcases a variety of the academic offerings available at Lincoln University alongside students experiencing a ‘slice of life’ by staying on campus and getting involved with student activities on campus. Following their time spent on campus learning about Lincoln, participants then act as an ambassador for Lincoln University by presenting in their respective schools about their gained insights.

“This is a really valuable experience for the students as they can make very well informed decisions about their future study options at Lincoln University. Following great success with Australian students we are looking forward to welcoming the successful applicants of 2016.”
