13 May 2008 Lincoln study a global passport for Alexa

Where can study at Lincoln University take you? A long way . . . and 2008 graduate Alexa Bennett is proof of that!

From Christchurch's Villa Maria College, Alexa came to Lincoln University on a Cricket Scholarship and has completed Bachelor of Commerce and Management and Graduate Diploma in Commerce qualifications. Along the way she spent an academic year as an exchange student at Cornell University, New York.

Now Alexa's travels and international experience are continuing as she has won a place on Fairfax Media's Graduate Trainee programme in Melbourne. She is with The Age newspaper gaining experience and training in advertising roles.

For her BCM, Alexa majored in Marketing and International Business and at Cornell she majored in Applied Economics and Marketing.

It wasn't until Alexa's second year that she discovered a passion for marketing.

"I realised that I really enjoyed the marketing aspect of my degree, so I selected papers that would prepare me for a career in this field. One of my favourite papers was about how cross-cultural differences affect business," she says.

"All my studies have been focussed on a career in business and my interest in marketing gave me a more specific avenue of business to pursue. The Fairfax

Media position is a sales and marketing role. As a large organisation with many opportunities for advancement, this was a perfect role to aim for."
