28 August 1985 Alan Ruff, British landscape teacher, visits Lincoln College

Putting nature back into the cities is one of the interests of visiting British landscape architecture teacher Allan Ruff who is presently in New Zealand talking to landscape architects and others about this new ecological approach to landscape design.

Allan, who has taught landscape architecture at the University of Manchester for the last 15 years, is visiting Lincoln College this week to find out about the landscape architecture course here and to talk with those involved in teaching.

Lecturer in landscape architecture at Lincoln College Simon Swaffield said Allan Ruff was a leader in the ecological approach to urban landscape
design in the United Kingdom.

Much of the work on ecological landscape architecture was being done in the Netherlands and Allan Ruff was writing and researching on the work of the Dutch.

Simon Swaffield said the Dutch were putting nature back into the cities by introducing native plants into their landscape design.

Allan Ruff has been in New Zealand since the beginning of August, and he leaves for the United Kingdom at the end of this week.

While in New Zealand he has given seminars at Lincoln College, the University of Auckland, and for government agencies. in Wellington.
