Motueka : Tides of Change - Kate Street

Vision: To give Motueka a strong identity, drawing on its character and ecological networks. Motueka will be revitalised as a family destination uniting the community and visitors within its heart. To give clarity to connections across the town that encourage engagement and interaction emphasising the coastal destination that is Motueka.

Objectives: Destination – Create a sense of destination through attractions, the connection of these and a town centre which reflects the wider area. Encouraging people to stay and enjoy all the town has to offer. Character – Use locally source materials: giving unique identity and drawing on the character that exists. Utilising the arts and crafts culture and making it legible in the town’s design. Maintain the unique character of Motueka drawing upon this further making it evident in the landscape of the town. Community – Create a heart for the community meeting their needs as well as visitors to the town. A place for the community to gather whether on a daily basis or for a larger event. Connections – Connect green networks and make blue networks evident in the townscape. Connect the design to the river and sea. Better connections across the east and west and over all legibility to the landscape. Connecting up the facilities, attractions and networks across the town.
