Design Vision: 

THE PROJECT An ageing population is one of the most important phenomena we will face on a local, national and global scale. The South Wairarapa district, like all districts in New Zealand, is being affected by an ageing population. The South Wairarapa District is a population of around 10,000 people, dispersed across 3 towns, Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough along with several small localities.

The district is diverse with agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, fishing and forestry all happening within its borders. Geographic proximity and rail service link creates a strong connection with Wellington. Many people choose to live in the Wairarapa and commute for work or retire to the South Wairarapa either permanently or for their weekends. Martinborough is famous nationally and internationally for its boutique, award winning wines it is where this project is based. Since grapes were planted in the 1970s, wine tourism has grown immensely leading to the establishment of supporting services. The result, a vibrant town packed with colonial charm, picturesque landscapes, friendly community, events and services. The town is packed with entertainment and potential that will be capitalised on in this project.

THE VISION To create a diverse environment capable of catering to the varying needs of different age groups. It shall offer a solution for an ageing society but simultaneously provide other services needed by the community. This concept is a variation on current models that offer a one dimensional approach to catering to our ageing population.
