Woolston is a suburb that spans a large area across the south-eastern area of Christchurch city, which is mainly occupied by suburban living area and general industrial zone. And it is of great industrial importance both nowadays and historically, not only because the Heathcote River flowing through it that encourages related water-consuming industries, but also because of its southern boundary's position on the railway line to Lyttelton.

Design Vision:  By the year 2045, Woolston south is a vibrant/socially active suburban hub with a prosperous community which celebrates and embraces its ecological, landscape and historical values, drawing upon and expressing its industrial character. It has a high-quality public realm and environmental quality, supported by efficient / sustainable cycling and pedestrian transit network, with a range of housing, retail and business developments, culminating in great sense of place. The Heathcote River becomes an important connecting thread and contributes to a harmonious relationship between the people, the industry and the environment.
