Design Intent:  The focus of incorporating rail and sustainability principles through the use of Urban Agriculture has created a modern day farming town by bringing the identity of elements of agriculture landscape into the towns centre. More people will essentially use trains as a mode of transportation alternative to cars as this is more sustainable and assuming petrol prices continue to increase, thus commuting by train will be efficient. This also makes the assumption that there will be less traffic congestion with more people on trains.

A strong open space network shall connect through the town centre, drawing upon the natural character of Ashburton whist incorporating new sustainable features that would be recognised as improving the town’s outlook by making it more attractive.
