Lake Tekapo is a small town located in the Mackenzie District, South Island and is the second largest out of three (Lake Pukaki and Lake Ohau) lakes along the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin. The lake is surrounded by a basin of golden tussock and the lake is famous for its shades of milky turquoise color. State highway 8 runs directly through the township of Lake Tekapo with daily bus shuttle services from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo and Queenstown.

Deisgn Vision: The design vision is the develop Lake Tekapo township into a vibrant and diverse hub. The project aims to integrate a balance between local facilities and tourist facilities. Also, development of Lake Tekapo will be based on giving first priority to pedestrian and also provides a more accessible lake front from town center by developing a rich recreation layer.

Creating a town not only with a unique identity, but also a town that has a place in the landscape. Becoming part of the surrounding can help improve ecosystem services as well as retaining and enhancing its status as a tourist destination.

The design includes the layer of history to create a regionally significant and resilient township whereby people of all ages can visit and enjoy.
