25 March 2009 Lincoln staff and students invited to embrace Earth Hour initiative

Lincoln University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Roger Field says staff and students can give “tangible support” to the ideals of Earth Hour by “embracing” the concept.

He sees Earth Hour as a “very positive approach to raising awareness about sustainability and the impacts of climate change”.

The University has signed up to participate in Earth Hour between 8.30 and 9.30pm this Saturday (28 March).

In a personal Earth Hour message to staff and students Professor Field says: “While the University will have relatively little on-campus activity at the appointed time of the week, I am expecting supportive activities from those in residential accommodation in particular. The largest impact should come from staff and students who are at home or off the campus and I encourage participation by reducing power use during Earth Hour.”

He says that Lincoln University has a substantial commitment to environmental sustainability and contributes towards understanding the impacts of climate change. Earth Hour is an opportunity for all to share in a very positive public initiative.
