31 July 2009 Lincoln academic honoured twice by Property Institute

At the Institute's annual conference in Auckland over 18-19 June Mr McDonagh, a staff member at Lincoln University since 1990, was made a Felllow of the Institute and also presented with the Academic Award.

The Fellowship recognises Mr McDonagh's high professional reputation and the significant contributions he has made to the industry.

“With this Fellowship your outstanding efforts have been formally acknowledged by your peers,” said Institute CEO David Clark.

“We greatly appreciate all the contributions you have made to the industry and look forward to your continuing leadership within the property industry and the Institute.”

Mr McDonagh was one of 10 new Fellows of the Institute announced at the conference. The list included Lincoln University graduates David Grubb of Auckland, Warwick Guild of Dunedin, Simon Harris of Tauranga, Joanne McCracken of Rotorua, and Geoff Tizard of Hamilton.

Two Life Memberships of the Institute were also awarded at the Conference, to Donn Armstrong of Christchurch and Neil Darroch of Auckland. Both are Lincoln University alumni.

The prominence of Lincoln University graduates in the property profession is a reflection of the University's commitment to education and the provision of tertiary qualifications in this field. It was the first university in New Zealand to appoint a professor of real estate studies, in 1988, and has had a long association with property through its Valuation courses stretching back to the 1930s.

The Academic Award was made for Mr McDonagh's major contributions to the property sector through his research and teaching. His performance in these areas was described by the CEO as “exceptional”.

“As a lecturer at Lincoln University you have provided outstanding education in property management and investment analysis,” said Mr Clark.  “You have made an exceptional contribution to the property industry through your service to the valuation and property management professions and your research sabbaticals at universities overseas.”

In the course of his career at Lincoln University Mr McDonagh has spent overseas sabbaticals at the University of Wisconsin in the USA and at universities in Australia.   

Guest speakers at the conference, attended by 380 delegates, included Sir Robert Jones and ACT Leader Rodney Hide.
