Lincoln University's Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Supply Chain Management is a comprehensive undergraduate programme capable of producing work-ready graduates with a sound foundation in the core areas of procurement, sourcing, logistics and supply chain management. It is taught through the University's Faculty of Commerce.

 

Modem supply chain management focuses on coordinating and controlling the entire chain from the raw materials to the finished product, and also the post-life of the product, in an environmentally sustainable way. Lincoln University graduates enter the employment market with an understanding of the necessary components of a fully coordinated product/market system that is efficient, sustainable and provides optimal returns to the stakeholders.

 

Courses in the programme address key elements of managing and coordinating the supply chain and include a comprehensive study of modem procurement principles and practices, inventory management, transportation and logistics, operational planning and control systems, quality systems, marketing and customer relationship management, and the re-cycling and disposal of materials and products.

 

The Lincoln University programme is unique in New Zealand as it is a commercially focused, full undergraduate-level degree covering the key discipline areas related to procurement, sourcing, materials management, operations management and logistics, all taught within an overall supply chain management principle.

The employment rate of Lincoln University graduates overall is the highest of New Zealand's eight universities.

The student roll is between 3000-4000 and academic staff number about 250. The University has a structure of three faculties - Agriculture and Life Sciences, Commerce, and Environment, Society and Design.

 

In recent years the Faculty of Commerce, through which Commerce degrees and the Supply Chain Management major are taught, has been the largest faculty in terms of graduate numbers. Around 44 percent of the total degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded at the 2009 Lincoln University graduation ceremony were in the Commerce area, many of them directly land-related such as the degrees in Valuation and Property Management and Transport and Logistics

 

In an economy like New Zealand's, land links much of what the country does and trades in. Land also underpins many of the world's leading questions and issues and the fact that Lincoln University graduates are to be found working in over 70 different countries worldwide testifies to its international relevance.

 

Lincoln University is committed to internationalisation and currently has students from some 60 different countries.

 

Former Commonwealth Secretary-General Sir Don McKinnon, himself a Lincoln University alumnus, used to remark that wherever he went in the world he met Lincoln University graduates.

 

Lincoln University is located in the South Island of New Zealand, close to the city of Christchurch (population 331,000). The central campus, in an attractively landscaped rural setting, covers over 50 hectares. There are associated research and commercial farms nearby owned by the University, including a state-of-the-art dairy farm which is in the top one percent of New Zealand dairy farms for productivity and profitability.

 

The University helped pioneer cool climate grape growing in New Zealand and is a leader in viticulture and oenology. The University also pioneered landscape architecture education in New Zealand and has a brand new landscape architecture building for teaching and research. Tourism is another strength.

 

Lincoln University hosts New Zealand's national Bio-Protection Research Centre. The centre's facilities include a biotron - an encased, biologically secure, climatecontrolled laboratory that duplicates an exterior growing environment - believed to be the first in the South Hemisphere.
