Lincoln University won the 2009 Champion Canterbury ACC Workplace Safety Award at the seventh annual Champion Canterbury Awards held in the Christchurch Convention Centre last night.

Lincoln University along with its subsidiary companies Lincoln Ventures Ltd and Lincoln Hospitality Ltd triumphed in the Workplace Safety category this year after being a finalist in 2008.

"Lincoln University is delighted that its commitment to Health and Safety practices has been recognised with first place in the ACC Workplace Safety category in the 2009 Champion Canterbury Awards," says Vice-Chancellor Professor Roger Field.

"Health and Safety is about putting people first and Lincoln University is proud of its people centred Health and Safety programmes.

"With this win comes public acknowledgement of the dedicated work of all those who contribute to making the campus and its associated locations safe and healthy to international standards.

"Lincoln University takes a proactive approach to Health and Safety and views it as a matter of on-going, ever-present awareness - not simply as a set or procedures to activate if things go wrong or there is an emergency.

"Lincoln University continues to excel in all the Health and Safety audit processes and the commitment is founded on full support from the University's management and governing Council.

"Success in the Champion Canterbury Awards is an achievement all those involved with the planning and implementation of Health and Safety programmes at Lincoln University can justifiably be proud of and enjoy."
