10 October 1984 Horticultural field day to be held at Lincoln College

Establishing an orchard, with emphasis on stone fruit such as peaches and nectarines, will be the topic of a horticultural field day being held at Lincoln College on Saturday November 17.

This will be the first of a series of three field days being held in November and December dealing with fruit crops.

Growing skills and marketing techniques will be discussed at each of the three field days.

Staff from the college horticulture and farm management departments will lead discussion.

Those at the field days will see trials and demonstrations in the college horticultural research area.

Pip fruit will be the topic at the second field day, being held on Saturday November 24, when apples, and European and Asian pears will be discussed.

On the third and final day of the series, wine, juice and dessert grapes will be discussed.

All three field days will cover prospects for fruit growing, climate, soils and husbandry, along with the economic potential of each crop.

Established growers as well as those contemplating moving into horticulture should find the field days interesting and informative.

Charge for each field day is $23, and this includes lunch.
