22 November 1984 Lincoln College campus hosts a variety of events during the summer break

Students may have gone home from Lincoln College for the long summer vacation, but the college facilities and accommodation are busier than ever.

The Acting Principal, Professor R.H.M. Langer, told the College Council meeting today that courses, workshops, field days and conferences drew more than 1300 visitors to the college in the past few weeks.

Nearly 400 farmers, businessmen and others were at the annual Budget Review forum on November 15.

There had been workshops on farm forestry, solar energy in the home, horticulture, and computers.

Courses had been held on communication for agricultural journalists, park rangers, shearers, and for the Lands Department on elements of landscape.

Those on the 1984 Kellogg Farm Leadership course had returned to the college for the last time this year.

One hundred and fifty farmers and others were at the field day held at Ashley Dene.

College staff had also been involved in agricultural shows at Ashburton, Leeston and Christchurch.

The Department of Animal Science mounted a display at the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Show, and the Ellesmere A. and P. Show.

Staff from six departments and the N.Z. Agricultural Engineering Institute were on the college stand at the Canterbury A. and P. Show.

Professor Langer said that outside organisations had held conferences, workshops and training courses.

A training course run by the Australian Association of Building Societies and a gathering of church group leaders each drew 120 people.

There was also a power farming workshop, a Department of Education workshop, a conference of the Coopworth Society, and meetings of the N.Z. Agricultural Co-operatives Society and the International Agricultural Exchange Association, he said.
