2 October 1984 Workshops and field days to be held at Lincoln College

Three field days, six workshops and one farm walk are scheduled on the Lincoln College program for the last three months of this year.

The first of the field days, at the Lincoln College Ashley Dene farm on Thursday October 25 will be for light-land farmers and feature a farm walk and discussions on cereal production, particularly winter barley, on light land.

Two of the workshops will deal with farm forestry; the first on Tuesday October 16, and the second on Tuesday November 20.

The first farm forestry field day will be held at Hororata, and feature measuring timber, establishing prices, and types of sale. The second forestry field day, to be held at the College, will deal with the use of timber on farms.

Three of the workshops, each taking a e whole day, will be on horticultural topics.

The first of these workshops, on Saturday November 17, will deal with establishing an orchard, and discuss frost protection and irrigation, and examine stone fruit. --

The second horticulture workshop will be on  Saturday November 24 and feature pip fruit, and the final workshop, on Saturday December 1, will deal with grapes.

This will be an awareness-type workshop for farmers, farmers' wives and others contemplating using on-farm computers.

The annual walk across the College crop farm will take place on Thursday December 13, and, as usual, college staff and other advisers and scientists will accompany each group.

The program has been designed especially for farmers and their wives, stock and grain agents, advisers and consultants.
