18 October 1984 Field day at Ashley Dene

Barley will be emphasised at the morning session of the field day at the Lincoln College Ashley Dene farm next Thursday (October 25).

Starting the day's program will be a talk on farm policy and the budget for 1984-85, and silage, and lamb deaths will be discussed later.

Visitors to the farm will be taken by bus to the main block and the cemetery block to see lucerne and stock management.

Then the Ashley Dene farm manager Mr Bob Simpson will talk about silage on the farm.

Dr Warwick Scott, of the plant science department, will give an overview of barley activities, and discuss the effects of grazing on winter barley.

Diseases of barley will be discussed by Dr Roy Gaunt and Mr Alan Wright, of the agricultural microbiology department.

Dr Nick Gallagher, of the plant science department, will discuss the time of sowing barley.

Visitors will then be taken to see late-sown spring barley.

After lunch Mr Bob Gumbrell, veterinary investigation officer with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries at Lincoln, will discuss lamb deaths .

The talk on farm policy and budget, at the start of the day's program will be by Mr Rod Plank, of the farm management and rural valuation department, who is supervisor of Ashley Dene.

Visitors will be welcomed to the field day by the Acting Principal, Professor R.H.M. Langer
