2 October 2012 From conception to reality!

After weeks of planning and 400 hours’ labour over three days by a dedicated team of some 60 volunteers, New Brighton just got a little bit more beautiful, courtesy of a new park in Oram Ave.

In collaboration with the Greening the Rubble Trust, the team was led by the University’s second year Landscape Architecture students, who were also responsible for the design itself. The project was also part of The Concert: an event organised by the Student Volunteer Army, where volunteers who commit four hours of their time receive a ticket to a free concert at AMI stadium on 3 November.

Principal organiser and Lincoln University student Emma Taylor said the project provided the students the practical experience while beautifying the earthquake-hit suburb. Being just one of many Greening the Rubble projects that Lincoln University students have been involved in, such projects are important Emma said, as it shows Lincoln University students were playing a notable part in quake recovery.
