14 March 2013 Lincoln University students attend the 2013 Accounting Fair

Lincoln University held its annual Accounting Fair on Wednesday 6 March 2013, with 12 organisations represented to speak with students about internships and graduate positions.

The Accounting Fair provided an excellent opportunity for students to promote themselves to potential employers and procured students the experience to discover the opportunities available to them when they finish their degree. For employers it was an opportunity, in particular, to promote their programmes/internships, with some students applying on the day.

“There is a strong demand for accounting graduates, especially with an agricultural background. To have 12 accounting organisations on campus gave our students a wonderful opportunity to meet potential employers, develop networks, find out about employment opportunities and explore their career options,” says Lincoln University’s Careers and Employment Learning Advisor Michelle Ash.

“For employers, it’s a great way to kick-start their recruiting process and to help raise their profile amongst the students. A number of the employer representatives are Lincoln University graduates, so they are able to speak to the students about their personal experiences – shifting from student lifestyle to a working lifestyle. As well as being able to interact with students en mass, there was an opportunity for students to chat directly with employers, allowing both parties to make a further positive impression.”

The organisations present were Audit New Zealand, BDO, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton, KPMG, Moore Stephens Markhams, PwC and WHK and professional accounting associations New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and CPA Australia.
