Halswell Learnscape: Learnscaping the Creamery Stream Catchment - Andre Davies

Traditionally the community of Halswell knew their neighbourhood; its history, culture, flora and fauna. They were part of the living identity that sustained them. With cultural and social development we have changed the landscape to accommodate our needs at the expense of ecological networks. Children are often disconnected with nature and natural systems and the lessons they learn from there landscape is often not positive.

The aim of Seven Oaks learnscape is to create a setting where tangible and uncontrived learning opportunities abound. To enable systems thinking by creating, and comprehension of natural, outdoor spaces that integrates concepts of ecology and design into thinking patterns.  The learnscape is an example of social and ecological health and sustainability that is varied in form, scale, texture, materials, organisms and spatial relationships.
