Haute Couture Newmarket 2064 - Janice Tham Tian Ching

Located 5 km South-east from Central Business District Auckland, Newmarket, a sub-regional centre, with high density of building (mixture of retail and commercial & residential) & physically situated at the junction of State Highway 1, Newmarket Viaduct, & Railway lines. Broadway is the main source that provides economic growth and sink where the traffic is very busy most of the times because it connects to SH1 and SH 20 where it leads to Auckland Airport. In my opinion, the character of CBD Auckland is diverse, multi-purpose main centre to support surrounding hubs whereas for Newmarket, it is like a shopping paradise. For the local residents, they have a quiet and peaceful environment which is a huge contrast to the main bustling core of Newmarket. It is more on relaxing, slower pace & many cafes and bars life scene happening along the street for Parnell and for Mt Eden, it feel like any other suburbs, low stories of buildings mainly for residential area except the presence of Mt Eden mountain which make it very special & the main reason for tourists to visit Mt Eden, it provide significant value for the suburb. Coming from an urbanized country, Singapore, it leads me to the choice of Newmarket as my design site for this project.
