Vision:  Overall, the design will aim to enhance and protect the rich character of the existing Wanaka Township. This will be achieved through a number of design interventions that are focused towards the four categories that are the heart of this landscape PEOPLE PLACE LAKE and LAND.

Wanaka will become a town that celebrates and respects its place in the landscape, becoming part of the ecological, and human processes in which it is surrounded. Lake Wanaka will become a resilient town in the face of climate change and flooding, as well as retaining and furthering its status as a tourist destination for the world.

Building upon this, Wanaka will aim to create a conservation based experience built upon its landscape. Creating notions of how people can give back to the landscape, as well as how it can be changed not only from the conservation land itself, but from our towns.

Looking towards the future, we would see Wanaka as a sustainable, resilient, character rich township in which all age groups of people can visit and enjoy, and truly experience a harmonious integration of place and landscape.
