NoMo: A Catalyst for the region - Annabel Crosbie

NoMo is a series of blocks located between Moorhouse Avenue and St Asaph Street in Christchurch, New Zealand. The blocks are a short 10 to 15 minute walk from the city centre. This area of Christchurch has been under intense development ever since the 2010 earthquake, but the blocks located within the site have seemingly been forgottenand are full of empty buildings, empty sites and a large amount of car yards. The East Frame is the official residential quarter where five blocks of high priced apartments and town houses are currently being developed. A Metro Sport’s Facility will be built adjacent to the site on Antigua St adding immediate amenity to NoMo.

The vision is for NoMo to become a space where ecological value, high urban density, sustainability and mixed use work in unison, to create a place that becomes a catalyst for change, a place that creates social, environmental and economic value. In regards to the character of the site “Boho NoMo” Quirky, unusual, fun, vibrant, innovative and unique will be words that spring to mind when people say NoMo.
