Restore Lost City - Joshua Chia

The chosen site Christchurch city centre, an urban heart of the city established since 1880s. The site is rounded by four avenues which is Bealey Ave, Fitzgerald Ave, Moorhouse Ave, and Deans, Ave. Meanwhile, Avon river crosses the area from west to east. Most of heritage buildings along the riverside, and also close to the Cathedral square. The British style buildings and European landscape views express a distinctive regional identity. But, the 2011 Christchurch earthquake serious damaged historical buildings, and other infrastructural. The initial identity has lost in the event, and the major design project is trying to recovery the image of the city.

The master plan is responding to recovery the lost city identity. According to value proposition analysis, the city has lost sense of place during urban development, and seriouse influenced by earthquake event. City lost history will be recovered by the plan, and will be supported by three main strategies, which are place strategy, movement strategy, and ecological strategy. The page focus on showing place and movement strageties, which more related to cultural heritage. Ecological strategy (natural heritage) would be shown on planting strategy page.
