Celebrating the Wonder of Water: Frankton Hamilton - Yuhang Yang

Frankton is a central suburb of the city of Hamilton, New Zealand. It is the site of the city’s passenger railway station, a major industrial-commercial stretch of State Highway 1, and a commercial shopping area.

The mature inner city suburban close to the central city and some major events facilities such as Hamilton Lake. It is surrounded by parks, and the green belt.

Over the past thirty years, Frankton has lost some of its charm, but this inner city has an excellent location and mixed economy which make the site has large potential to be an ideal place to live and work, and attract more people come here.

Design Intent: Frankton is a historic place with unique suburban characters, the heavy rainfall in the future will be a big concerns for people`s property, activities and community, and also for the native species habitats. The
project is to explore is there any potential opportunities to use water to addressing the issues. In other words, water will not be a concerns or problem on the site, people could celebrate with water, ecology system will get benefits from the water. Thus, more in the future more rainfall could be a good solution or a choice for Frankton to make some changes. The master plan shows hows the blue system connected with green, and how these two connected with people`s life and activities.
