Gorge View Station "A place to play in your retirement" Waimakariri Gorge/Otarama - Samuel Hobson

Design Intent: The village layout has been designed to capture the unique surrounding environment by making the most of the gorge and mountain views. All construction planned on site has been positioned to best suit land use, ease of access and lie of the land.

I designed the village to embrace a Jan Gehl concept that states ‘experiences are more interesting when things are unusual and different.’ This concept has encouraged me to avoid the classic ‘cookie cutter’ subdivision where every street and section is the same. Approaching retirement and moving to a retirement village is a daunting thought for many people. The motivation behind the establishment of Gorge View Station has been to change this common misconception by creating a place where retirees can see themselves living. The amazing views, socializing opportunities, active lifestyle and activities provided by the village guarantee plenty of appeal factor. Retirement will become something to look forward to and embrace at Gorge View Station.
