    Manaakitanga: This concept is about ‘looking after all Iwi whatever their ethnicity or tribe’, as demonstrated during the earthquakes. This Maori value encompasses the notion of bringing other ethnicities into the neighbourhood, knowing that they will be cared for in the same way as their own. These values can be used to create an integrated structure of ‘care for all’, with The Marae at the centre of things.

     

    Redzone Christchurch: The Flat Land Residential Red Zone is a significant and extensive area wide land damaged in the Earthquakes that once contained housing that now due to the instability of the land cannot be built on.

    Sustainable development of the red zone has many “opportunities to connect”, and improve the environment, creating “economic outcomes” that bene t locals and visitors. Regenerate Christchurch has taken over of the responsibilities of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority is developing a Regeneration Plan for the entire residential red zone along the Otakaro Avon River Corridor from Barbadoes Street to Bexley. Strong themes that have emerged so far are about envisaging points of difference for this area that will set it apart and support it to regain a new lease of social, cultural and economic life.

    Conflictive interests of its use by existing community groups could problematic
    Linking the red zone green scape to central Linwood provides a design challenge also possible soil contamination could affect development of an urban food production.

    This zone presents an opportunity for Linwood a suburb bordering this future green space which could offer recreational possibilities and food production. This could a leading factor in attracting people to Linwood and demonstrate the variety of ways it can act as a vibrant heart to Christchurch.

    2. Kaitiakitanga - To work actively to protect the people, environment, knowledge, culture, language and resources for future generations.
