f(Ōmakō) = Biodiversity, Mahinga Kai and Terroir - Mees van Wagtendonk

The regional context of the Lindis Pass is highly dominated by sheep stations and pockets of conservation. Many layers of history and cultural values are hidden beneath this wash of rich landuse that has been operating since the mid 1800s. In order to bring these layers of provenance back a set of strategies have been put in place to create a landscape of nodes that embrace the dynamic stories that are invisible to a passer by. Cluden Station is a 12,000Ha sheep station located North-East of Tarras stretching from the Tarras flats to the base of the St. Bathans Ranges. Farmed for 5 generations it is one of four farms that once formed the 140,000Ha Morven Hills station. Cluden Station has been chosen for the site as it provides a unique history and base structure for economy. Both of these key values are fundamental in the vision of Omako. The design proposal of Cluden Station aims to generate a co-operative brand that harnesses the key values layered in the landscape using five key strategies to generate Omako.
