Picture taken during a visit by the ex-Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, to C.A.C in April 1947. Lord Bledisloe (born Charles Bathurst, 1867–1958) was Governor-General of New Zealand 1930-35. In 1896, he graduated from the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, and he pursued a lifelong interest in scientific agriculture and land-related matters in England. During his term as Governor-General, he instituted many gifts and awards, including, in 1930, the Bledisloe Medal at C.A.C., to be awarded to 'an old student who, in the opinion of the authorities, appeared to have most thoroughly justified the education they received at the college' (Blair, "The Seed They Sowed", p. 67). The Bledisloe Medal is awarded annually and is still the highest award Lincoln University bestows on its alumni. Following the end of his term and his subsequent return to England, he maintained many contacts in New Zealand. During a return visit to New Zealand in 1947, he visited C.A.C. and this photo shows the donor of the Bledisloe Medal with five medal awardees: E. R. Hudson (1942), W. O. Rennie (1934), Lord Bledisloe, A. B. Moore (1946). L. W. McCaskill (1944), R. J. Low (1937).
