Press Statement – Carol Stanton
    Date19th December 2000Lincoln University

Lincoln University has now completed its consideration of the case of Carol Stanton, the former student found guilty by the Christchurch District Court in June this year of fraud relating to applications for aegrotat assessment in 1998.

In dealing with this case, the University was conscious of the need to protect the integrity of its processes and hence, of the qualifications it awards. It was also necessary to follow a fair and reasonable process in dealing with the case, so as to ensure that Ms Stanton's case was given a fair hearing.

The University is limited by the Privacy Act in what it can say about the outcome of Ms Stanton's case. We are unable, in particular, to reveal the actual final grades awarded to Ms Stanton in the four subjects in which she applied for the aegrotat assessment. We can say, however, that we have reassessed the aegrotats and that actions have been taken which have had the effect of ensuring the integrity of our records. Ms Stanton has been informed of the outcome of our deliberations.

Because of the Privacy Act, we do not intend to respond to any further questions on this matter.
