Two rising Christchurch sports stars have won their first caps – but in academia, not the test match arena. For Crusaders Rugby Colt Todd Ormandy and Canterbury Under-21's netballer Penelope Quartermaine it's been capping month and the pair have graduated with degrees from Lincoln University.

Todd and Penelope are the first of the Lincoln Sports Scholars to complete their degrees. Currently there are 100 students in the University's Sports Scholar Programme which now covers four codes – rugby, cricket, netball and hockey.

Todd, a flanker, plays for Christchurch High School Old Boys' Seniors and toured to Argentina with an Old Boys' side last year. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and Management degree and will continue at Lincoln with postgraduate study.

Penelope, who takes the court at centre or wing attack, plays for Christchurch Technical in the Premier Grade. She graduated with a Bachelor of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management degree.
