The residential red zone in Christchurch city has created a huge opportunity for Christchurch to improve the biodiversity, liveability and wellbeing of the community around it. The predominant focus of the study area is to create an ecological corridor to enhance the biodiversity of the site as well as the wider Christchurch area using Meurk and Hall’s theories on connecting patches using the ideal distance for birds to travel. The native wildlife of Christchurch is predominantly made up of birds therefore this was the logical approach to take. This project has also been informed by Wenche Dramstad’s work on ecological patches, specifically on interior and edge habitat.
