A gruelling interview with Charlie”

Hedley Evans was one of the five student in the first DipLA class, 1969-1970. He had just completed his Bachelor of Horticulture at Lincoln College in 1967 when he heard that a course in landscape architecture was to be established. He marked time for a year, working as a labourer, until Charlie Challenger returned from England and, then, over the summer of 1968/69 he helped set up the course, as Charlie Challenger’s personal assistant.

Hedley recalls his entry interview with Charlie and reflects on his perception of landscape architecture at that stage.
