Main issues following the imminent population increase in the region include increased number of private vehicles on the roads, loss of productive land, increase in commuting times, decreased mental wellbeing in urban areas, and inequal loss of access to nature. 

In collaboration with district councils, the Greater Christchurch partnership, and KiwiRail, a new railway loop is established to provide commuter, resident, and visitor access around the extended Greater Christchurch area. The rail loop will enable people to choose their preferred living environment while being able to work in growth centres without the need for long-distance private vehicle use.

As research has shown, mindful activities and subjective nature connectedness enforce each other (Macaulay et al., 2022), and this project aims to enable both through all of the proposed scales in order to support human wellbeing while moving towards densified living.
