    Stuart Cheyne Farnie died of wounds in France on May 4th, 1917 and was the only son of Mr. T. C. Farnie, M. A., barrister and solicitor, formerly of Geraldine. He left New Zealand as a member of the 15th Reinforcements, belonging to the Rifle Brigade. He took a keen interest in athletics, and was prominent exponent of rifle shooting and swimming. After leaving Canterbury Agricultural College, Farnie was engaged in farming in the Geraldine district until he volunteered for the Front.
