Lincoln basketball scholar Lauryn Hippolite is part of the panel at next Monday’s No-Sweat Sports Sessions, a Zoom event from 6pm to 8pm to share more about the scholarships and answer questions live.
It was rugby’s turn last week, and Lauryn is part of the basketball line-up, and able to share her experiences of a sport that has taken her around the world.
The Canterbury Under-19 rep, Canterbury Wildcat and Junior Tall Fern, has been playing for 12 years.
In 2018, she received a scholarship to play Division 2 basketball in the PacWest conference for Hawaii Pacific University, her team winning its conference that year.
“I returned back to New Zealand after my freshman year in Hawaii for scholarship financial reasons and found my new home at Lincoln.
“My goals are to play for New Zealand in either a 3x3 team or the national team. I would like to do more travelling and play basketball for as long as I can and see where it can take me.
“The Lincoln University scholarship helps me work towards these goals by allowing me to practice and play in a high-performance program in both 3x3 and 5x5 basketball with other like-minded athletes.
The programme allows her to train with high-quality coaches and trainers helps in sporting and academic areas by offering support and guidance, she said.
She is studying for a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Food Science, and just finished her first semester, and is “loving it”.
“I have always had an interest in health and nutrition and studies science throughout high school. I have also recently become a qualified personal trainer. I balance my academic and sporting interests by keeping highly organised and making sure I am communicating with coaches, trainers, and teachers throughout the semester.”
The No-Sweat Sports Sessions are online chats where you can find out everything you need to know about Lincoln University Sports Scholarships and how they cater for your code.
Hear from, and ask questions of, code-managers, the people who run the programme, and the students doing it, to find out why you should apply now to follow in the footsteps of some of New Zealand’s best sportspeople.
