Lincoln University Farm Management lecturer, Dr Nicholas Prince, is focused on teaching the farmers of tomorrow to manage change by looking at how it is managed in differing systems around the world.
Dr Prince features in the latest Influencers@LU podcast, hosted by Dr Hafsa Ahmed, and discusses the changing face of farm management in New Zealand.
Among the topics covered are how farmers should handle the introduction of further environmental regulation into their usual practices.
Dr Prince says there is a need to acknowledge the differences among farming systems internationally, how they vary from New Zealand’s pasture-based management, and how they have handled change, as well as the timeframes involved.
He also emphasises the importance of educating New Zealand’s future farmers about mental wellbeing.
Other topics in the podcast include social business (Lincoln is home to the Yunnus Social Business Centre), why people buy the food they buy, and the bio-economy.
