Prizes aimed at improving sustainability and encouraging increased connections between students and industry were awarded to School of Landscape Architecture students at a special event earlier this month.
The New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects/Robin Gay Award of Excellence went to Sean Eustace, for demonstrating the highest level of achievement in academic and studio work in his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture class. Sean is expected to make a significant contribution to the profession in New Zealand.
The prize has a value of $500, plus one year’s complimentary membership to the NZILA.
NZILA Awards of Excellence were given to Yibo Li and David Pedley, judged the best Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students in the second and third year respectively.
And for gaining the highest final marks in the final-year Major Design course of the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Sean Eustace and Sophie Harrison were joint winners of the Peter Rough Award of Excellence.
Two scholarships were also awarded on the night, including the Boffa Miskell Landscape Architecture Scholarship, aimed at facilitating increased connection between a third year student, the School of Landscape Architecture and industry.
Winner Hannah Whiting will receive career opportunities as part of the scholarship, as she moves towards entering professional practice.
The Smith and Lucas Landscape Architecture Scholarship was awarded to Master’s student Charlotte Calder. The scholarship will support Charlotte to help improve the planning and management of rural landscapes in New Zealand, to assist in making them more sustainable.
