Lincoln students have claimed the two World Congress Charitable Trust awards, given each year to Young Farmers members.
Hannah Nichols, 18, pictured right, is studying a Diploma in Agriculture while 21-year-old Emma Subtil started a Master of Management in Agribusiness in 2019.
The $1500 scholarships are for Young Farmers members who are currently or intending on studying agriculture or agriculturally related topics.
Hannah, is from a 230 cow dairy farm in Dargaville in Northland, while Emma grew up on Omarama Station, a 12000ha sheep and cattle property.
Both will use the money to help with some of their study costs, Hannah for accommodation while Emma will put it towards travel costs for her planned research, travelling the length of New Zealand to study employment in the meat industry.
Emma first came to see the Lincoln campus through Young Farmers, visiting as part of TeenAg.
Hannah chaired the TeenAg club at Dargaville High School for three years and competed in last year’s TeenAg Grand Final in Invercargill.
• The World Congress Charitable Trust was started with funds remaining from the 1965 World Congress of Young Farmers and was formed into a Trust in 1969The scholarships are now in their 47th year and have contributed to more than 100 Young Farmer member’s educations in that time.
