The 8th incarnation of the annual Lincoln University Sport and Recreation Forum, held on Wednesday 16 October was the biggest yet, with 82 sport and recreation professionals, staff and students attending.
The event, held on campus, had a wellbeing theme reflecting an increasing Governmental focus on improving the wellbeing of New Zealanders.
One of the organisers, Dr Koji Kobayashi, said the forum began with a new feature this year, with industry professionals meeting one-on-one with students to provide career advice.
He said it was a new initiative that worked tremendously well.
The forum began with a presentation on wellbeing by Associate Professor Kevin Moore talking on the “Association between physical education class timing and cognitive function in children”.
Following him were presentations by third year Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management students Rebecca Gillett and Shani Clark, and master’s students Ellen Nicol and Niamh Espiner.
Dr Kobayashi said Ellen co-presented with Fran McEwan from Sport NZ, who flew down for the event and commented afterwards about how amazing it was to hear about the research being done, and how fantastic it is that Lincoln makes the effort to engage with the sector in this way.
