Lincoln University will be the presenting sponsor of the inaugural GROW Ō Tautahi Christchurch Garden Festival, to be held in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens next year.
The free festival will host botanical displays, exhibition gardens, panel discussions, as well as workshops and master-classes, from March 20 – 22, and will become an annual fixture on the Canterbury calendar.
There will also be special events for children, art tours and more at the Christchurch Art Gallery.
It will celebrate “the best of Christchurch and Canterbury, with a contemporary take on gardens, horticulture, education and science, and landscape architecture.”
Lincoln will be part of the panel discussions around topics such as defining the future of food and mahika kai (traditional food resources).
Lincoln University Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bruce McKenzie, said the University grasped the opportunity to get behind the festival as it offered direct synergies with Lincoln’s land-based teaching and research.
“Our messaging is all about how we help our students grow. We grow their opportunities and futures, and help New Zealand grow, through our students, as well as our research and collaborations.
“There is already that alignment, and it is a great event for the people of Christchurch and further afield, as well as an opportunity for us to showcase our expertise and land-based offerings.
“This is a festival Christchurch will love.”
