Silver Fern and Lincoln alumna Jane Watson will be joining community healthcare advocates, Doctors Dame Sue and Phillip Bagshaw, as special guests at this week’s Lincoln University Blues and Golds Awards.
The awards, on 2 October, celebrate the best of student achievement in sport and contributions to the community, so the invited trio as seen as especially representative of those values.
Jane was a member of the 2019 Netball world cup winning New Zealand netball side coming into the team as a late injury replacement in 2016 and cementing her place through her performance.
Dame Sue established the 198 Youth Health Centre offering young people free doctor's appointments, counselling and addiction support services under one roof, while her husband founded the Canterbury Charity Hospital in 2004 to provide free treatment for people who were not being seen in the public sector, but could not afford to go private.
The trio will chat with MC Hillary Muir, from the Breeze radio station, on stage to give some insights to the student award winners already starting to make their own marks in the world.
Blues are awarded to outstanding Lincoln University sportspeople who have achieved provincial and national sporting representation this year, while Golds offer recognition of students’ major contributions to the community.
