An enthusiastic group of 35 people came to the Lincoln University campus on Thursday for a comprehensive milk price management workshop aimed at dairy farmers.
Organised as part of a series in collaboration with the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX) and Fonterra, the free workshop was run by Lincoln University finance expert, JD Van Heerden.
“The workshop was designed to raise awareness and offer educational opportunities to the farming community regarding milk price risk management,” said Dr Van Heerden.
“We are planning on offering elaborated workshops in the future that will cover risk and risk management concepts in more detail, to help farmers develop a risk management policy for their businesses.”
Although the workshop was designed with dairy farmers in mind, it was also open to rural bankers and consultants with an interest in milk price risk management.
The workshop forms part of a nationwide series, which will be held over the next few weeks at locations including Gore, Rotorua, Cambridge, Whangarei, Palmerston North and Inglewood. They will cover topics such as risk management tools for the marketplace and the farmer experience.
