The Food Innovation programme at Lincoln University is proving a strong drawcard for international students.
Around 100 students from 10 countries (China, India, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea, Nepal and Kenya) are at Lincoln to learn about innovation in the global food industry.
Academic co-ordinator for the Master of Science Food Innovation programme, Professor Ravi Gooneratne said there were record levels of students taking courses in the Master of Science programme and Postgraduate Diploma programmes.
He said the popularity of the programmes showed the importance of Lincoln University in Food Science teaching and research in New Zealand.
Professor Gooneratne said this year’s enrolments have come mostly from India and China and were a result of the extensive bi-lateral links Lincoln staff have in those countries.
“This includes conducting workshops, partnering in joint research centres and instigating bi-lateral research programmes which promote New Zealand as a hub that produces safe, nutritious and healthy food.”
