A class at Lincoln University were all given golden tickets recently, visiting a chocolate factory as part of their studies.
Dr Mohini Vidwans organised a visit to boutique chocolate makers Chocolate Traders for her BMGT211 Productivity Management class, a local manufacturer & wholesaler of quality handmade chocolates.
“I always strive to connect them to the real world, for them to experience how things work,” she said
The students enjoyed the experience, to see how different chocolates like raspberry indulgence and gingerbread man are made by hand.
Irene Gillies, founder and Managing Director showed them around and explained the different operational aspects of chocolate making.
Dr Vidwans said the students asked lots of questions and got to taste the samples
Students described the trip as inspirational and said it was a great opportunity to see how their studies have been applied in a real business scenario, fantastic to see the power behind an incredible chocolate brand and give “significant context for the theory discussed in BMGT211”
The class is described as an introduction to designing, managing and controlling the core transformation process in organisations in a lean-focused, managerial decision-making context.
No oompa loompas were spotted and all the students were reported to have made it back to Lincoln without turning into blueberries.
